FELLOWSHIPS & AGENCIES

FELLOWSHIPS

ECWA recognizes three main categorizations for fellowshipping where every member will naturally belong to. They are: Men’s Fellowship, Women’s Fellowship, Youth Fellowship.

·      Men’s Fellowship:- Men’s Fellowship in First ECWA Ilorin started during the time of Rev. P.O. Akure as Pastor (1967-1969). The Fellowship holds regular Prayer Meetings and Bible Studies. The Fellowship has also embarked on gospel outreaches and on supervision of outstation churches. It has also helped to pay for many church projects.

·      Women Fellowship:– The Women Fellowship has been highly successful in First ECWA Ilorin. it attracts the highest membership and has always been active. The hold regular Prayer Meetings and Bible Studies. The love that radiates when members of the church is in need or receives a blessing of the Lord is immeasurable. The Fellowship has equally embarked on many projects of high impact for the church.

·      Youth Fellowship:– Perhaps the most vibrant and agile  fellowship of the three. The Youth fellowship is another forum for Bible Studies and Christian Fellowship among the Youths in ECWA. There detailed Bible Study and Bible exposition are done and various aspects of spiritual life of a Christian are discussed. The Youth Fellowship’s contribution in the physical development of the church has been massive and cannot be overemphasized.

AGENCIES

The spiritual growth of any christian organization is usually measured by its involvement in such activities as Evangelism, Bible study, Christian fellowship prayer and charity.

This section intends to give a sketch of the performances of First ECWA Ilorin in respect of these essential ingredients of spiritual growth.

Gospel Team:- what could be regarded as the First ECWA Gospel Team was constituted by some missionaries with such members of the church s Elders J.A. Afolabi, T.J. Atolagbe and a few early members of the church. Till date, the team visits villages and community centres for the work of spreading the goodnews of Christ.

Drama :– There is a highly effective and efficient drama ministry in the church. The aim of the Team is to proclaim the gospel through drama. They, however, organize Bible Studies and prayer meetings to prepare themselves for effective presentation of the gospel in any drama presentation. The drama Team has produced many films and Christian home videos for the furtherance of the gospel.

Ushers:- Another selfless team of workers in the church has been the Ushering department. They see to the orderly arrangements of people during services and they also serve as the link between the pulpit and the pews during services. Their responsibilities to the growth of the church is huge.

Choirs:- Initially there was no choir when the church was founded in 1946. It was around 1949 that the first choir was formed. The first choir master was Abiodun Olokodana. It was however during the time of Rev. Fred Adeyanju that the choir got a boost. The annual service of songs of First ECWA Ilorin choir has now become a national event where people from the North, South, East and West come to be blessed of the Lord. Surely, the gospel has been effectively proclaimed through songs.   The church now has four prominent choirs. They are: The Yoruba Choir (Main), the Women Choir, The English Choir and the Children Choir.

Women Choir: Over the years, the Women choir has come to be of high spiritual benefit to the church. The Women choir ministers at most church services and weddings of members. They also receive invitations to minister outside the church.

The Chosen Generation Choir: This choir mainly ministers in English and it is the choir of the English Section of the church. The choir sings contemporary and classical songs and has been a blessing to many.

The Children choir: The Children choir has been one a main source of the discovery and development of gifts among the children in the church. It has been in existence of about 45 years. In fact, most middle aged adults in the church today where at one point or the other, members of the children choir.

Prayer Team:-  Prayer has always been the cornerstone of ECWA activities and organs. First ECWA Ilorin has never underestimated the potency of prayers.

Boys and Girls Brigade:- Another avenue for Bible Study and Christian fellowship among children and the youths is the Boys and Girls Brigade. There, the children are taught moral discipline, obedience to constituted authorities and elementary paramilitary training. Boys Brigade was introduced to SIM/ECWA in Ilorin by Elder Elijah Ajagbe in January 1968. God used him greatly in this regard not only among the SIM/ECWA but also among all Boys Brigade companies in Ilorin. The Boys and girls Brigade hold enrolment services every year to welcome new members and promoting deserving members.

CHURCH GROUPS (Egbelegbe)

In addition to the fellowships, the church has many “Church Groups” through which individual members are known. This enhances close and intimate knowledge of members’ joys and problems. The number of “Church Groups” in First ECWA is about sixty (60).
